Born in 1966 in Taunton, Claire was educated at Somerset College of Arts and Technology and St Edmund Hall, Oxford (reading Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art). After a post-graduate degree at Goldsmith’s College, London, she spent a year in practice at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague on a British Council post-graduate scholarship. Claire explains; “[My] work is primarily concerned with the balance that exists between line, colour and space. The subject matter tends to be thematic and whatever is near to me at the moment – it could be derived from drawings made in the garden or the children’s toys. I enjoy working in a range of media in order to develop a variety of visual ‘noises’ and to make the range of expression greater.” While continuing to teach Art at the King’s School (Worcester), Claire finds time to exhibit regularly in group shows and has held solo exhibitions in Worcester, Tetbury and Galerie Gema in Prague. Claire lives in Worcester with her husband Petr, also an artist, and their two daughters. |
